Lymph drainage 90 minutes. Focusing on the area of concern. Not full body massage Oedema is a condition where a build-up of lymph usually causes skin swelling underneath the skin's surface. oedema can occur just from sitting or standing in the same position for too long, or it may occur when the weather is hot. Causes of oedema: * A high intake of salt in the diet causes water retention. The body-specifically the kidneys helps to maintain a balanced ratio of water and salt in the body. If we take in too much salt, the water levels in the body will be increased to balance this out, leading to fluid retention and causing swelling. * Injured cells and tissues in the body, such as bruises or burns. A minor injury causes cell damage, which can cause the blockage of lymph flow. * Scar tissue can cause a blockage of lymph flow. Again, cell damage has occurred, which causes lymph flow obstruction. * High-stress levels. When we are stressed, our muscles tense up. Lymph flow relies on muscle contraction for movement; if the muscles are not contracting, the lymph flow becomes blocked. * Varicose veins. Varicose veins are when the veins-usually in the legs and feet-become twisted, swollen and lose their elasticity. This means that more blood remains in the veins, as blood flow is slower. More blood means more tissue fluid seeps through the walls, causing fluid accumulation and oedema. * Lack of exercise. Exercise causes muscle contraction, which in turn encourages lymph flow. If we are not moving, our lymph circulation will be slow.
